A 61-year-old woman has developed blurry vision in both eyes days after using a commercially available hair dye, a case which experts say is likely related to chemicals in the hair dye called aromatic amines. The researchers say this is likely to be a case of 'Retinopathy associated with the use of hair dye aromatic amines (RAHDAA)' which was also recently reported in three middle-aged women following exposure to hair dyes containing these aromatic amines. Four years later, and after switching to a dye that was free of these amines, the woman had no repeat episodes. The researchers say this condition may be rare or underdiagnosed but by identifying it, people can prompted to to reconsider their use of hair dye in an attempt to limit persistent damage.
