Why are vet grads mostly women, but vet leaders mostly men?

Three Chief Veterinary Officers, including one from New Zealand, ask why women only make up a quarter of leadership positions in their sector. In their opinion piece, they say it contrasts with statistics showing women made up two-thirds of veterinary medicine graduates in the US in 1996. They say there is not enough research or monitoring to understand where or why women are falling out of the "leaky pipeline".
