The type of prostate cancer treatment you're likely to have is very different depending on where in Australia you live, according to Australian researchers who looked at hospital data for prostate cancer interventions across the country. The team compared the rates of prostate surgery and radiation therapy at different doses, and say fewer men in remote areas are getting surgery. Rates for all treatments are lower for those at financial disadvantage, they say, which could also be influencing the regional differences. The researchers say men in more remote areas may be influenced in their treatment decisions by the logistics of accessing care, their life context and a higher risk of later diagnosis.
