People who followed the Weight Watchers program lost more weight and were more likely to lose 5% of their weight after three months and after 12 months than people who were trying a do-it-yourself approach to weight loss, according to an international study of 373 people in three countries, funded by Weight Watchers.  At the three-month stage, the Weight Watchers lost, on average, 3.8kg, while the DIY group lost an average of 1.8kg. At 12 months, Weight Watchers lost an average of 4.4kg, while the DIY group lost an average of 1.7kg. In addition, a higher percentage of Weight Watchers than DIY-ers achieved weight loss of 5% at both three months (40.7% vs 18.6%) and 12 months (42.8% vs 24.7%), the researchers say.
