The winds are strong enough on Fiji's Yasawa and Koro islands to have wind turbines supplying their energy needs, researchers say. Their new study also suggests the moderate winds on the islands of Gau, Ovalau and Taveuni show potential for stand-alone or hybrid renewable energy systems. The seasonal wind variations on Fiji are a good candidate for wind and solar power systems working together – with higher wind speeds from May to October and more sunlight available from November to April.
