US scientists say teens who vape may be more likely to try cannabis later than those who don't vape, although e-cig use has only a minimal link to rates of teen cannabis use, which have remained stable over the last 25 years. The team looked at data from 9,828 youths, none of whom had tried cannabis at the start of the study. They found e-cig users were more likely to have tried cannabis when they followed up a year later. However, they say the rise of e-cigs has had little effect on rates of teen cannabis use overall.

Examining Association of Adolescent Electronic Cigarette Use, Future Marijuana Use

About The Study: The findings of this study suggest that adolescent e-cigarette use was associated with an increased likelihood of future cannabis use, but the overall association of e-cigarette use with youth cannabis use at the population level is likely quite small.
