Smoking during your pregnancy is known to have detrimental effects on your offspring, but US researchers say taking vitamin C might decrease the effects on your kids' airways. The researchers provided pregnant smokers with a 500mg a day of vitamin C or a placebo, and followed up with their kids at age 5. They found the kids of the mums given the supplemental vitamin C had better lung function than those given the placebo. Additionally, the kids of this group that were also given vitamin C had significantly decreased wheeze - a common issue for kids of mums that smoked during their pregnancy.
