The majority of Auckland's schools have junk food ads within half a kilometre of their school gates, according to a new study. Researchers pored over Google Street View images to find out what students see on their way to and from school, finding that one school had as many as 95 unhealthy food and drink ads within its zone. The researchers also concluded that students at low-decile schools were more likely to be exposed to junk food ads, and that this shows advertising industry self-regulation is failing.
