Medication to lower blood pressure is still effective at warding off major heart issues, according to an international meta-analysis. Researchers analysed the results of 51 randomised clinical trials to examine whether medications aimed at lowering blood pressure continued to help the heart past the age of 70. With the combined trials providing data for over 300,000 patients, the researcher say they found no evidence to suggest risks outweigh the benefits of the medication into older age, and this medication is effective at preventing major cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes.
