Rheumatic heart disease more widespread among young adults than expected

A study has found that one in every 50 Polynesian young adults in south Auckland have rheumatic heart disease - about the same rate as for children. Most rheumatic fever prevention focuses on young children, and the researchers say this study shows young adults need to be targeted too.
