Gamblers and gaming addicts spend more on loot boxes

Video game ‘loot boxes’ - digital boxes with randomised rewards inside that players can purchase - appear to be bought more often by people who have problems controlling their gambling or gaming. Based on 22 studies, researchers found loot box spending was linked to both behaviours. Comparing the two, problem gambling appeared to have either the same or even greater impact than excessive gaming.
