Pregnant women with COVID-19 are significantly more likely to face a serious and potentially fatal health complication during pregnancy, according to international researchers. The team looked at data from about 14,000 pregnancies in the US, including 2352 COVID-19 positive patients. Looking at the rates of death and serious complications relating to high blood pressure, haemorrhage and infections other than COVID-19, the researchers say the risk was 13.4 per cent for COVID-19 patients, compared to 9.2 per cent among those without COVID-19. All five mothers who died during the study had COVID-19.
