Women who have had a recent pregnancy are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer than women who have never given birth, and the risk is even greater for women with a family history of breast cancer or a genetic predisposition to breast cancer, according to Australian and international research. The study of more than 17,000 women found that the risk of breast cancer after pregnancy is especially great in women with a family history of breast cancer or a genetic predisposition to breast cancer. The authors say future studies are needed to assess the clinical implications for this at-risk group.
