The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is 94 per cent effective at preventing hospitalisation as a result of the virus in teens, and 98 per cent effective at preventing a stint in intensive care, according to US research. The team looked at the vaccination rates in a cohort of 445 COVID-19 patients aged 12-18, and compared them to similar cohorts who were in the hospital system for non-COVID-19 medical issues. Four per cent of the teens hospitalised with COVID-19 had been fully vaccinated compared to 36 per cent of teens hospitalised for other issues. Just two COVID-19 patients in ICU had been fully vaccinated and all seven COVID-19 related deaths were unvaccinated.
