An Israeli study of 24,288 newborn babies, 16,697 of whom were exposed to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine while in the womb, found the vaccine had no effect on rates of preterm birth, neonatal hospitalisations, postneonatal hospitalisations, birth defects, or deaths. The results suggest exposure to the Pfizer vaccine while in the womb is safe, the authors say.

Vaccination During Pregnancy With Infant Outcomes

What The Study Did: This large population-based study found no evident differences between newborns of women who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (BNT162b2 messenger RNA) during pregnancy compared with those newborns of women who weren’t vaccinated. Interpretation of study findings is limited by the observational design of the study.
