If more eligible people took Paxlovid, the number of Covid-19 deaths could be halved, new modelling from US researchers suggests. They estimated the Covid-19 antiviral is only being taken by 5% of those eligible to receive it, resulting in the overall Covid-19 hospitalisation and mortality rates being lowered by less than 8%. However when they modelled a scenario where 80% of eligible people took the drug, Covid-19 death rates reduced by 51% and hospitalisation rates dropped by 42%.
