Parents who run with a pram as a way of getting back into exercise after having a child may be at a lower risk of injuring themselves compared to those who get back into conventional running, according to international research. The team surveyed 249 parents of young children who ran before and after their children were born. 196 of the survey participants brought the pram on runs during their child's early years, while 53 did not. The reported injury rate relative to the distance the participants ran was halved for the pram runners, the researchers say. They suggest running with a pram could promote a slower, more consistent pace and holding a pram may even take some of the load off the body as possible explanations for this. The researchers say their findings suggest running with a pram is a safe way for parents to get back into exercise while taking care of their children.
