Semaglutide, commonly sold as Ozempic, can improve kidney disease outcomes and survival in patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, irrespective of whether they also have heart disease, according to research which includes Australian authors. The study compared a 1mg dose of semaglutide with placebo and found that those taking semaglutide had a lower risk of worsening kidney disease and lower rates of death regardless of whether or not they also had heart disease, heart failure or a high heart disease risk.
