One year of exercise could help reduce your risk of developing diabetes in the long term

Sticking to a 12-month plan of vigorous or moderate exercise could have long-term benefits for preventing diabetes in people with obesity, according to Chinese research. The study asked people with obesity to exercise for a year and split participants into three groups who either did a 30 min brisk walk five times a week, a more vigorous 30 min exercise on a treadmill five times a week, or nothing.  When they followed people up 10 years after the program was completed, they found the risk of diabetes was reduced by 49% in the vigorous aerobic exercise group and by 53% in the moderate aerobic exercise group compared with people who did no exercise.
