One-in-four young people in NSW who present to hospital for mental health reasons present again the following year and one in five present at least three times, according to Australian research. The team looked at NSW emergency department data and found people under 15 years old, young women, First Nations young people and young people living regionally were most likely to present to hospital multiple times. The researchers say health and community services need to be aware of those most at risk and provide culturally and gender-appropriate support.
