No COVID-19 herd immunity without vaccination

Publicly released:
Australia; NSW; QLD

An Australian-led review has found that antibody levels suggest no country has had high enough COVID-19 infection rates to generate 'herd immunity' and that mass vaccination is needed to reach this endpoint. The study also found that in some countries, the number of people with COVID-19 antibodies in their blood was up to 717 times higher than the reported case numbers, suggesting these countries may be missing symptomatic cases. The authors also say only testing symptomatic contacts of those with COVID-19 will underestimate its prevalence, as people are able to spread the virus prior to developing symptoms.
