While the world comes to terms with the catastrophic impacts of the current coronavirus pandemic, what new and emerging health technologies could have made the pandemic shorter and less painful? How does Australia's healthcare system need to change to confront future pandemics as well as other health crises on the horizon? A new report from the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) finds that Australia’s healthcare system must quickly incorporate technologies, including remote consulting, wearable monitors and full digitisation of health records, if it is to meet the challenges of the coming decade, such as infectious diseases, chronic health issues and an ageing population.

Note: This report does not specifically address the COVID-19 pandemic, however the recommendations are relevant to it.
