**BRIEFING RECORDING AVAILABLE** The latest Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) report on the state of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) has found coral cover across all three regions of the Reef increased slightly or remained at similar levels to those recorded last year, with cover levels above or just below long-term averages. To produce the report, AIMS scientists surveyed 121 coral reefs, finding 106 of them had moderate to high coral cover of between 10% and 50%. Only three reefs had coral cover below 10%. The report also includes a detailed account of the impacts of the 2024 mass bleaching event on different types of corals.
