NEWS BRIEFING: IPBES (the ‘IPCC for Biodiversity’) Invasive Species Report - Aussie and NZ authors speak

The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), often described as the ‘IPCC for Biodiversity’, is releasing a report on Invasive Alien Species and their Control on Monday 4th September 2023, and this briefing is an opportunity to hear from the Australian and NZ coordinating lead authors in advance of the report's release. The briefing will focus on what the report means for Australia and NZ. Invasive species are one of the five major direct drivers of biodiversity loss and a major risk for Australia. From foxes to fire ants, ryegrass to wild radish, invasive species cost Australia billions of dollars every year – and it is expected to get worse.

  • Professor Phill Cassey, ARC Industry Laureate Fellow, University of Adelaide and Lead Author of the report

Please note all the Coordinating Lead Authors are in Bonn, Germany and time zone differences mean they will be unavailable outside his briefing until later in the afternoon on Monday 4th September.
