New type of COVID-19 test gives accurate result in under 4 minutes

A new type of COVID-19 test developed in China has been shown to give highly accurate results in under four minutes. The test uses extremely tiny mechanical components made of DNA combined with microelectronics, to detect the presence of the genetic material from the virus and convert it to an electrical signal. The test was able to detect the virus in less than four minutes from samples taken from 33 patients with confirmed COVID-19. It also gave no false positives from the 54 samples from people without COVID-19. The authors say with more development the test could be used for COVID-19 testing in airports, clinics and local emergency departments and even at home.
