US scientists say the proportion of parents who refuse the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for their adolescent kids grew by almost 80 per cent between 2015 and 2018, despite reported adverse reactions to the jab falling from 44.7 per 100,000 doses to 29.4 per 100,00 doses over the same time period. The researchers say there is an urgent need to address perceived safety concerns about the vaccine so parents feel confident in letting their teenage children get the jab.
