Comparison of SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Response Following Vaccination With BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273
This study compares the immune responses to the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in health care workers in Belgium.
This study of healthcare workers in Belgium has found that antibody levels are higher after vaccination with the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine than with the Pfizer vaccine. The study included people who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 along with those who had not been infected and found higher antibody levels in both groups. The authors say the higher mRNA content in the Moderna vaccine and the longer interval between doses (4 weeks vs 3 weeks for Pfizer) might explain this difference. Whether this difference translates to a difference in the duration of protection, the protection against variants of concern, and the risk of transmission needs further investigation, the authors say.
