Mediterranean-style diets benefit kids' health as well as adults

International scientists gathered together and re-analysed the data from nine previous studies, including a total of 557 people aged between three and 18, that looked at the benefits of sticking to a Mediterranean-style diet for heart health and cholesterol levels. They say the Med diet - which is high in veggies and olive oil, and low in red and processed meat - was linked with lower blood pressure and lower levels of 'bad' cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), as well as increased levels of 'good' cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol). Introducing kids to Med-style diets could help improve their health and set them up for healthy adult lives, the researchers include.
