Even in workplaces that are making an effort to be Rainbow inclusive,  LGBTQ+ employees in Aotearoa are often assumed to be straight and cis, according to a new study using data from the Rainbow Tick accreditation programme's surveys of 30 organisations. Many of the almost 2300 respondents said they had been subject to inappropriate comments and jokes, and highlighted policies - such as parental leave entitlements - that fail to recognise the needs of Rainbow employees. Transgender employees face unique challenges, especially during transition. The study authors suggest that the focus of workplace inclusion should shift from 'the margins' to addressing mainstream norms.
