Just half of rainbow students at New Zealand polytechs feel safe and welcome on campus, according to a survey of more than 250 students across 14 campuses. The number of students who reported negative campus experiences such as bullying, discrimination, 'jokes', and misgendering was roughly the same as those who said they fitted in and felt like ‘normal’ students. Participants suggested several systemic changes to make campuses more inclusive, including installing more easy to find gender-neutral toilets, and improving administrative processes to ensure their correct names and pronouns were used.
