Group A streptococcal is likely on the rise around the world and could also be increasing in Australia, according to Australian researchers. In a perspective piece, the team outline the challenges we currently face with surveillance of the infection, which makes it difficult to assess whether cases are increasing here. They also outline the current efforts in place to develop a vaccine for the infection, which they say should be prioritised for infants and pregnant mothers once developed.
