In Australia, how are gender inequality and violence against women related?

Publicly released:
Australia; NSW; VIC; QLD

Gender inequality and violence against women could be related, according to a survey of over 17,500 Aussies which looked at attitudes towards women and support for gendered violence. Generally, the researchers found that lower support for gender equality was related to higher support for violence against women. The team also found “hostility towards women” and “rigid gender roles” were the first and second strongest predictors of supportive attitudes towards violence against women.
