Mortality and disability as a result of thyroid cancer is still rising in Australia despite declines across the European Union, according to international researchers. The team tracked thyroid cancer rates, mortality rates and the amount of years affected by thyroid cancer-related disability across 16 European countries along with US, Australia and Canada from 1990 to 2019. The researchers say while 13 of the 19 countries saw an increase in the overall rate of thyroid cancer, Australia, the US and Denmark were the only countries that have seen mortality and disability-affected years increase across that time. In Australia, they say the annual increase in mortality was 0.6 per cent.
