US researchers asked 50 adult women about their acne-related concerns and found that their skin causes them to have strong concerns about their appearance, which takes a toll on their mental and emotional health, as well as disrupts their personal and professional lives. The women, with an average age of 28 years, were asked how acne could affect their day to day lives. The team says that in addition to the avoidance behaviour and the emotional and mental toll bad skin can have, the women reported that it was a challenge to find effective treatment and even to access care.
