How can we get young people involved in climate action?

There are five things adults can do to encourage young people to engage in climate action, according to Aussie and international researchers who looked into challenges facing young people who care about climate change and want to take action. When it comes to participating in climate action, young people face challenges such as social injustice, climate anxiety, a disconnection from nature, and fake news limit their ability to protect their future from the impacts of climate and ocean change, according to the authors. But including diverse voices, active dialogue-based science learning, connection to nature, critical thinking skills and co-created visions of a sustainable future can help combat these issues. Encouraging the participation in climate action can ensure young people are informed and active as they grow into the decision-making adults of the future, the team says.
