Artificial intelligence, especially language learning models such as ChatGPT, have the potential to break down barriers in scientific research if used responsibly, according to Australian researchers. At an Australian research symposium, experts discussed the potential risks and benefits of including AI in research. Among the discussions was how language models could work alongside researchers to reduce jargon in papers and grant applications, or assist with language barriers for researchers who are less fluent in English. However, the researchers say currently available AI has plenty of limitations and risks, so its use will need to be carefully overseen for now.
