High vaccination coverage can significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission within a US university setting, according to international research. The team looked at the results of a surveillance testing program at a Midwestern university and compared case numbers before and after a vaccine mandate was established, driving vaccination up to 90.8 per cent among students, 92.2 per cent among faculty, and 72 per cent among staff by mid 2021. The researchers say the seven-day average case number across the university dropped in correlation with the increased vaccination rate, suggesting the vaccine played a large role in reducing transmission.
