New Zealand, Canadian and Chinese researchers say their study of 99 children born very preterm found that 57 of them who were given a higher protein diet early in life had more mature brains at age seven than those on lower protein diets. The results suggest that higher protein intake promotes brain maturation in a way that is still observable at seven years old, and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of optimal nutrition for very preterm bubs, they say.
