Despite the promise of cheap & clean energy, solar panels haven’t been that popular in New Zealand homes. Researchers asked a representative sample of more than 500 Kiwis about what they thought about solar panels and what might incentivise them to use them. Previous research had found the greatest barrier to increasing the uptake of solar panels in homes was the high upfront cost of purchase and installation. In this new study, researchers found access to free installation and low interest loans were the most attractive incentives for the public.
