Two-thirds of healthcare workers surveyed during the rise of the COVID-19 are at high risk of burnout, but staff that got regularly tested for the virus seemed to show better mental health outcomes. Researchers looked at more than 3,500 survey responses from healthcare workers in the UK, Singapore, and Poland between March and June 2020. The research team suggests that the potential link between regular testing and lower rates of burnout could be from the sense of support workers feel in a well-run organisation, or alternatively, that burnt out staff were less likely to get tested due to feeling disengaged. Regardless, the team says proactive testing is important as a way to support worker wellbeing.
