Long term health impacts from survivors of COVID-19, often referred to as long COVID, must be factored into existing healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries, according to Aussie and international research. The systematic review of 57 studies, analysing over 250,000 survivors of COVID-19 found that more than half experienced long COVID symptoms six months after recovery. The team found that the most common aspects of health affected by long COVID are mental health and pulmonary and neurological health, reinforcing the need for a 'whole-patient perspective' when treating patients for the condition.
