UK and US scientists say becoming wealthier in middle age appears to reduce your risk of heart problems over the age of 65, no matter how rich you were to begin with. Unfortunately, the reverse also holds true, they say, as people who become poorer in midlife appear to have an increased risk of heart problems later. The findings are based on data from 5,579 participants who were followed-up for around 17 years.
