A large Israeli study of 7,517 people found the median time spent outside was reduced by about 58 per cent during Covid-19 restrictions. Screen time rose, while median values of sleep quality, quality of life, physical activity, and productivity all deteriorated. Larger drops in natural light exposure were linked to worse wellbeing and poorer sleep quality. The authors recommend that public pandemic strategies should actively encourage spending more daytime outside to boost sleep and wellbeing. They say other recent research suggests sunlight exposure can also help with recovering from Covid-19.
