COVID-19 vaccination still provides around 87 per cent immunity to SARS-CoV-2's Omicron variant according to international researchers. The Omicron variant features a mutated spike protein which could mean vaccine effectiveness is lower, however, researchers studied 16 individuals who had been vaccinated against COVID-19 and found that the immunity provided by the vaccine was still 85 per cent against the Omicron variant. The authors say that immunisation still conveys protection against severe COVID-19 from the Omicron variant.
