Exercise is essential, no matter how old you are, according to Aussie and international researchers. The team looked at data from more than two million people aged 20 to 97, exploring the association between meeting the physical activity recommendation (for example, 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise each week) and death. They found the beneficial association between meeting exercise guidelines and death remained consistent across the adult lifespan, and became more important as people aged when compared to other health factors such as alcohol consumption, body weight, and smoking. The team says the results do not show exercise to be more important than other health factors generally, but the findings indicate that physical activity is essential at all stages of adult life.
