New Zealand's essential workers were more likely than other workers to be at high risk of burnout and mental health complaints after the first lockdown, according to recently-released surveying. Essential workers said the fear of getting sick, concerns about 'bringing the virus home', and increased workload made the burnout worse, but a sense of pride and purpose in the value of their work helped to reduce it. The researchers say workers at higher risk of burnout were 10-20 times more likely to report mental health complaints.
