French scientists looked at data from 1,351 women, 470 of whom had endometriosis, and say there does not appear to be a link between the condition and preterm birth. They found no difference between the rate of preterm deliveries before 37 weeks in the endometriosis group and the group without endometriosis. And the results were similar for different subtypes of endometriosis, the researchers add. The results suggest previous studies which found links between endometriosis and a slightly increased risk of preterm birth may have been flawed, according to an accompanying 'commentary' article by Finnish scientists. The team suggests pregnant women with endometriosis may not require special management strategies to prevent preterm births.
