A series of interviews with faith communities in Australia has found that there is ongoing denial and defensiveness about family and domestic violence within these communities, with many people saying that although awareness was increasing, the topic remains largely hidden and taboo. The researchers interviewed 64 people from a range of faiths and found that tensions exist between expressions of faith and attitudes to women and family and domestic violence. They found that denial and defensiveness about the presence of family and domestic violence in faith communities was reported across all faiths.
