Many people with endometriosis don't find that medical management relieves all their symptoms, and use complementary therapies to try to help. A review of six studies involving more than 300 patients found that acupuncture for endometriosis may cause a reduction in pelvic pain, and should be considered for people who haven't responded to other treatments. However the pain reduction probably doesn't continue after the treatment ends, and the results are uncertain. Ongoing acupuncture treatments could also add to the financial burden associated with having endometriosis. The authors say that more high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed in order to draw more accurate conclusions.
