A grandparent's relationship status has a big effect on the childcare they provide. Previous studies suggested that divorced grandparents provide less childcare, but glossed over the differences between genders. Now Kiwi and Canadian researchers have analysed European survey data and found that divorced grandmothers are more likely to provide childcare than grandmothers still married to the grandfather, however grandfathers are substantially less likely to provide childcare in any relationship status other than continued marriage to the grandmother.
